AGOOENIANS of AMERICA INC.

TOGETHER...CREATING FUTURE

 A Brief History

The idea to form an association of people from Agoo, La Union, Philippines was conceived in the early part of September, 1969 by a spirited group of Agooenians attending a party at the San Francisco, California, home of Mr. & Mrs. Claro Lagleva. From there a group of twenty enthusiastic men and women from Agoo met on September 25, 1969 at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Domingo Sabado in San Francisco, California to begin organizing The Agooenians Association of California. On the first Sunday of October 1969, the first officers were elected at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Abelardo Estonilo in San Francisco, California.

The first Agooenians Association of California, town fiesta celebration was held in May, 1971. The first queen was Cindy Estonactoc and her princesses were Cynthia Marie Rualo and Mary Jean Banayat. On May 5, 2001 we celebrated our 30th Annual Town Fiesta and Induction of Officers of the newly renamed and duly registered non- profit and tax exempt association, AGOOENIANS of AMERICA, INC., More than 30 years since the idea to form this club/association became a reality.

On top of all, we came to thank and venerate our Patron Saint, Santa Monica, whose love to us never fails, and through her intercession to the Almighty God, secured the blessing bestowed upon each and every one of us, blessing which enable us to reach this country to enjoy its prosperity and happiness. We also, as a community of Filipinos in this country, manifest ourselves by our activities, culture, customs and traditions which undoubtedly, would give an understanding to our American brothers and sisters as well as other nationalities in this country, United States of America, the true meaning of the Filipino.

The following individuals were the past Presidents of the association: Ramon Taraya-1971-1972; Fred Marinas-1973-1974; Claro Lagleva-1975-1976; Pat Estonactoc General-1977-1982; Don Mabutas-1983-1984; Vincent Verceles-1985-1986; Jose Lacebal-1987-1988; Conrado Aspiras-1989-1992; Peter Estonilo-1993-1996; Jun Dalao-1997-2000; Ellie V.
